Langhe Country House La Palazzina
Although I live in nearby Alba, this is the house where I was born. It was built at the end of the 19th century by my great grandfather. It has recently been completely renovated and you will find it a spacious, comfortable and delightful house surrounded by the rolling hills and vineyards of the Langhe region.
The house is located on a quiet lane. My uncle and aunt live next door, and for two generations we have been hunters of the precious white truffles that this region is famous for. If you wish, during the truffle season in the autumn you are welcome to come with me and my dog to go hunting truffles throughout the night.
The Langhe Country House is spread over two storeys. Downstairs there is a spacious living room with a fireplace, a large dining area and fully equipped kitchen. A wooden modern style staircase leads upstairs where there are two large bedrooms, a bathroom and a balcony looking over the Tanaro valley and towards the Alps.
One bedroom has a double bed, while the other has a double bed and extra sofa, so five people can be accommodated with ease. All bed sheets and towels are provided. Throughout the house there is beautiful furniture, and the bathroom has a shower, sink, bidet and toilet.
The house also has free wifi, a laptop should you need it, Sky satellite TV, with DVD and CD players.
There is plenty of free parking and at the end of the driveway there are automatic security gates. Also outside is some decking covered by a gazebo that houses a picnic area that is equipped with a BBQ, electricity and a sink with running water.
The house is perfectly located for wine lovers as it is in the heart of a famous wine producing region that includes Barbaresco and Barolo. You can tour numerous vineyards and enjoy great wine tasting.
The area is typified by rolling hills that are topped with medieval villages, many of which retain ancient towers that were used to warn of possible attack. The nearest village, Neive, is absolutely stunning and has many fantastic restaurants. The nearby towns of Asti and Alba (home to Nutella and Ferrero Rocher), as well as the provincial capital of Cuneo, are all worth visiting, especially on market days.
Towns and villages in the region have numerous festivals and fetes throughout the year. One of the most famous would be the Palio di Asti bareback horse race that takes place in Asti on the third Sunday in September.
